In 2002 Co-founders Benjamin and Douglass Lodmell traveled with board member Mamadou Mambouray to Sierra Leone to consider rehabilitating children’s schools and establishing relief teacher training programs. Sierra Leone had just ended a long and terrible civil war that had left thousands of children without parents or family in need of relief. The Lodmell’s visited the operations of other children’s NGO’s and among them was a small relief orphanage with six girls whom were sponsored by Our Children, 501c3. |

In 2003, Our Children became unfunded and World Children´s Relief sponsored the girls. Two of the children, Bailey and Zainab, found relatives and returned to their families. Today, Hawa B., Hawa T., Lucy and Mary are still thriving in our Children’s House of Hope. Hawa B. and Hawa T. are in high school and Lucy and Mary are in middle school. Muniru Koroma and Aminata Kamara have administrated the relief home and cared for the girls as they have grown into young women whom make us all very proud. The girls have traveled within Sierra Leone when World Children´s Relief inaugurated schools or conducted teacher training seminars and are actively involved in charity activities. More news soon about the future of the Children’s House of Hope! |
