The principle work of WCR is the development of the Leon H. Sullivan Schools for Education & Self-Help.

The goal of the Sullivan School network is not only to provide a primary education to the rural poor, but a quality education that will prepare children for higher education or vocational training.

Leon H. Sullivan

This in turn will give children an opportunity to be a contributing member of society in order to foster positive change for their country.

The late humanitarian, Leon H. Sullivan’s principles of self-help and self-respect, the power of positive thought, the importance of community involvement, and the role of mentoring will be the threads that bind together a disciplined approach to the Sullivan Schools.

One of Dr. Sullivan’s dreams was to unlock the potential and possibilities for thousands of children. This is World Children’s Relief’s fundamental vision of the Sullivan schools.

Initially, the schools we adopt focus on four fundamental programs:

Early Childhood Development (ECD)
Health Education
Sports
Teacher Training

Presently, we have three pilot schools in three different countries:
Makari Village in Sierra Leone, Africa
Jisonayili in northern Ghana, Africa
Cayes, Haiti

Over the next few years, WCR hopes to greatly expand the number of adopted schools included into the Sullivan School network across Africa and Haiti, and also hopes to improve on the quality of education by developing vocational training and programs designed to prepare children for success after school.
