The best way to become involved in the work of World Children’s Relief is to come and see for yourself the work we’re doing, the places we’re doing it and the people being affected by it.

World Children’s Relief organizes volunteer trips to Haiti for interested skilled professionals, particularly healthcare professionals.

These weeklong trips will provide dentists, chiropractors and any other willing volunteer not only with the opportunity to use their skills, but also with the chance to become exposed and educated about the issues of poverty and development in this world.

All types of volunteers are encouraged to travel with WCR, not just healthcare providers, and WCR is willing to accommodate and organize trips to other destinations besides Haiti where WCR is working
.
Volunteers are responsible for covering all of their expenses.

You can read about the details of these volunteer trips in our Volunteer Trip Information Packet, written specifically about trips to Haiti.

Greg Stanley and Dr. Michael Abernathy
Haiti: January 11-17, 2004
Greg and Dr. Abernathy took the 90-minute flight from Miami to Port-au-Prince, and arrived in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The Sullivan School is located in the town of Cayes, in the southwestern part of the country. It is a four-hour drive from Port-au-Prince along bumpy roads. Once in Cayes, they were able to visit various places to get a better understanding of the community and its particular challenges. They met the students and teachers at the Sullivan School. They visited a malnutrition hospital for children, and saw the devastating effects of poor nutrition caused by extreme poverty. They also visited the homes of some of the school students, and were able to meet their families and see the difficult conditions in which they live.

Seth Goldberg and Dr. Rodney Nagel
Sierra Leone: February 8-15, 2004
Seth and Dr. Nagel had a much longer trip before arriving in Sierra Leone, West Africa than Greg and Dr. Abernathy had in getting to Haiti. Sierra Leone is ranked lowest on the UN Human Development Index. This is not difficult to believe after visiting the chaotic and run-down capital of Freetown, war-torn after 10 years of civil war. Seth and Dr. Nagel visited a school in Freetown where several orphan girls study, and helped organize a party for the orphans and their friends. They traveled into the central part of the country to visit the Sullivan School in the village of Makari. The villagers greeted everyone with a lively celebration of dancing and singing, in appreciation for the rehabilitation of their school building. In addition, Dr. Nagel adjusted many of the students at the school.
